We support our community in different ways. We fund and/or support enrichment activities for children and families, such as swimming, cooking and sport. We also run inclusive, free activities where adults learn new skills and meet others. We support families by helping them to access holiday provision and extra activities, and we help individuals by providing support or signposting to organisations who can help. We have a small welfare fund to help families facing particularly challenging times.
Sometimes, hardship can feel overwhelming, but we believe that celebration and creativity bring immense benefits – even at the most difficult of times. New experiences, enjoyed together, remind us that we share a universal human experience. We find new connections, feel welcomed and build new friendships through new creative activities. If you have any questions, email us at friendsofhannahmore@gmail.com
Most of our courses for adults run during school time and most are based in the community space next to school. You can check what's on with school, or by checking our 'Latest News' page, or by reading the school's newsletter.
We link families in to initiatives and opportunities across the city. These may be learning or leisure opportunities, or places people can access support of various kinds. During lock downs we provided food parcels including home-grown salads. Currently we can support families in need with small welfare grants.
We support many different things! One of our popular and long-running projects is our Saturday family swim project, which helps people to enjoy supported, swimming sessions at Easton pool. Sessions run during Spring and Summer. Here's a recent picture!
We were delighted to receive funding to run another Windrush event in 2024. Our 'Postcards Project' invited everyone to come and create a special Windrush postcard, to send to a friend or relative. We also made floorbooks which the school use as a learning resource and there is some new art on the walls of the community room too.
In the cold winter of 2023-24 we ran energy saving workshops so that people could gain skills to draft-proof their houses and save money. We hope to run more workshops in autumn 2024.
An endowment grant from Eastside Community Trust helped us to support a bonfire party for local families once again in 2024. Travelling Kitchen organised hot dogs and a team of volunteers from GoodGym helped out with the bonfire.
A grant from Quartet Community Foundation enabled us to fund after-school circus skills sessions for children in all year groups in 2023.
We are partnered with the SS Great Britain to signpost parents to their wonderful community research project.
Whenever we can, we run trips and visits to nearby attractions. This helps people to access attractions in the city by removing financial and other barriers.
We are so pleased to be working with Travelling Kitchen to offer new cooking activities to our community.
We were delighted to fund some Explorerdome sessions for Reception and Year 5 at the school last year. Parents also joined in with these session.
